Akabi in Baldur’s Gate 3: A Guide to the Legendary Spear Nyrulna

In Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll encounter a variety of colorful NPCs. While Volo might come to mind as a standout character, today we’re focusing on Akabi, a mischievous NPC you’ll want to outsmart to claim a powerful weapon: the legendary spear Nyrulna.

Where to Find Akabi in Baldur’s Gate 3

To meet Akabi, you’ll need to progress to Act 3 of the game. Fortunately, he’s located at the very start of this act. As you proceed, you’ll come across a circus. To gain access, you can either sneak in through the back gate or use your persuasion skills to talk your way past the guard.

Once inside, head towards the large red Djinn standing beside a spinning wheel. As you approach, Akabi will ask if you’d like to play a game. Before proceeding, it’s highly recommended to save your game.

How to Catch Akabi Cheating

When interacting with Akabi, ensure that the character engaging with him has a high Perception stat. If your main character doesn’t excel in this area, let a companion like Astarion or Shadowheart take the lead, as you only get one chance to detect his trickery.

During the dialogue, as Akabi spins the wheel, you’ll need to pass a Perception check. Failing this check means you won’t notice his cheating. If this happens, reload your saved game and try again until your character spots that Akabi’s game is rigged.

How to Obtain the Legendary Spear Nyrulna

Akabi uses a magical ring to cheat. To thwart him, switch to your stealthiest character and steal the ring from him before spinning the wheel again. With the ring in your possession, you’ll win the game, enraging Akabi. As revenge, he teleports the character who interacted with him to a jungle.

This area is teeming with enemies, so it’s best to proceed cautiously. Stick to the path, avoiding unnecessary confrontations, until you find a portal next to a chest. The chest is locked, so make sure to pick it. Inside, you’ll find the legendary spear Nyrulna.

Why Nyrulna is Worth the Effort

Nyrulna is a powerful weapon that deals piercing damage along with bonus lightning damage. Additionally, it grants:

  • A 3-meter bonus to movement and jumping.
  • A glowing effect that lights up its surroundings.

Once you’ve claimed the spear, use the portal to return to safety. With Nyrulna in hand, you’ll gain a significant edge in your adventures through Baldur’s Gate 3.
